Russ began his career in 1998 as Managing Principal and Chief Executive Officer of a regional technology integrator. Wearing many hats, he sought to become an expert in as many technologies as possible by achieving associate, professional and expert certifications in routing, switching, unified communications, wireless, data center, storage, and several others. For over 15 years, this company would grow to nearly 150 employees and $50 million in sales under his leadership. Recognizing the need for capable and unbiased technology advisors, Russ assembled the best in the business and together founded True North Consulting Group in 2014. Over time, the remaining operations of Elert & Associates came to be integrated into the True North Consulting Group family. Today, True North Consulting Group consists of nearly 50 consultants and holds true to the heritage and culture that sparked the creation of each. Russ is married to Dr. Mandy Johnson, an elementary school principal in Central Texas. Passionate about public education, they created a weekly Twitter chat called #EDpiper to help both newer and seasoned educators discuss timely topics in today’s world of education. Together they have seven daughters: Brittany, Emily, Lindsay, Viola, Betsy, Elena, and Kennedy.
